Gallary
I'm weeding through post looking for ideas and thought it would be nice if there was a gallery to place all the photo's. All the info is great - I was just hoping to find a quicker way to see different designs/looks. What do you think?

Re: Gallary
You're right it would be nice. There are some threads that would help you. Like the one about the calendar, but certainly not exhaustive. The easiest way in my opinion is to start with asking yourself, how many people do I want to feed? Do I like to tend fires or set it and forget it? Then do I want it on a trail or or not? This should narrow down the types of threads you need to study.

If we can ever get some freaking time… We're hoping to make some minor changes that should make it easier to do navigation stuff here…

RC, those questions are spot on. I never asked myself anything even close and that's probably why I'm still experimenting with smokers and sizes

Re: Gallary
I have a 'free' barrel - 30" x 48" that figures to be 180 gallons. I'm thinking it won't be anything special but am always looking for something to make it original or just take advantage of other's unique and cool things. Right now I think a bottle opener is pretty trick.

I had to go back and measure my tank again...it's 30 x 55. I found a calculator that figures volume of the end cap volumes too. It's found at this link. http://www.samuelpressurevesselgroup.co ... lator.aspx

Pete, don't you have that calc in your list? On my 80 gallon tank, I cheated....I just read the tag on it and went with that

Yep, it's the one I linked. I thought it was a barrel. The site he linked to is interesting. i never knew there were so many different end caps on tanks. Not sure it makes that much difference for our purposes tho. I still get ~150 gal.Puff wrote:Pete, don't you have that calc in your list? Re: Gallary
My tank is an old water softener barrel from the hospital I work at...I figure it has the 'standard flanged and dish' end and it figures to 181 gallons flooded volume. That same tank with 'hemispherical' heads (which I figure most propane tanks are) would figure to be 229 gallons...darn near a 50 gallon swing. And now it just dawned on me the difference between a tank and a barrel...go figure!

Re: Gallary
Just to clarify:
Overall tank length is 55" or is it the cylindrical section? If that's the overall length then the volume will not be 180 gal. If it's the length plus the end caps then it will be 180 gal.
Most calculators, including the one you linked, use length + end caps while mine uses overall tank length and subtracts the volume differential for elliptical end caps.

Nice day Saturday here in NJ, all I could do was clean the garage. Once it get above 75 degrees...I panic. We are not heat lovers. If those plans come out in June, I'd be FORCED to cut and weld. Ugh

Re: Gallary
You actually nailed it forty creek. I can't stand hot and humid....I lived in Vermont when I was younger and it was 40-50 below zero. Hate both extremes....my ideal temp is a high of 62.... Light breeze and 40 at night. Even very very happy with cloud cover and no sun glare.
I also lived in South Florida but I was 14. Nothing bothers you when you after only 1 thing....( if you said a case of beer, you're only 1/2 right!)
