I think it looks out of place on the trailer but it may be because I don't normally see them on trailers that small.

I think the trailer looks a little on the small side but more so than that, when you put that beautiful masterpiece you've designed and built on that trailer to me it looks out of place.

Yeah... I was thinking the same thing as both of you... I just didn't want to admit it after I spent so much work on attaching the damn trailer. Well... You will be pleased to know that I took it off the trailer and put the wheels back on. I removed the panels and began with paint... so much paint...

Assembly went smoothly, but because it was starting to rain I didn't get any pictures of it together before I put a tarp over it.

Can't wait to see it fully finished & assembled after the paint job & I agree that it looks better on its monster truck wheels.

Haha. I put the casters back on it because I need a finished picture for my class. Those monster wheels are in the works for sure.

I finished up the corners that I had to cut open on the pellet hopper. Cut a square sheet, notched and folded over all 4 sides to make a lid. I also fabbed up a pair of 1200 lb lift points that I'm going to bolt to the top. That way. The trailer won't be such a pain to use in the future. Paint and primer on all of it. Waiting for sun to put it all together.

I think you made the right decision by taking it off of the trailer. I know that when I built my personal smoker I had a picture in my mind of what the final product should look like and I didn't stop making changes until I achieved it. After all you're the one who had the vision and put in the effort so it should look just like you envisioned it.

More parts made today. Assembled it today. Lighting it now. Will have assembled pic smoking in a few minutes.
The rain cap was a flat piece of ¼" Stainless Steel that I hand rolled and welded to two strips of 14ga for the legs. Rolling it was way harder than I thought it was going to be. The 1/4" was the hardest thing I've ever worked with. The only thing that kept me going was the thought that: "well I'm already this far, just a few more passes".

Looking great! I see you went Rodcrafter style and used grade 8 bolts to fasten the rain cap..... :D

Well since they're only $2.99 per pound at Tractor Supply, how could I not? I actually had a few left over from the rest of the project that I repurposed when I added the cap. Anyways, I like that grade 8 have a rust proof coating over them. That was the deciding factor for me when purchasing hardware.
:bigfoot:
Now just waiting for some good weather take the tarp off it and cook the paint. The High Temp Paint still smudges a bit and I was told that it hardens after it goes through a few heat cycles..? Any way. Storms rolling over Michigan for the next few days have it all covered up. :wsm:

Now... I guess the next thing to do is make buscuits? Haha, this being my first smoker, I really don't have any idea what I'm doing.

You have done a great job thus far. Cooking is fun. I keep a notebook of what I cook with the rub, outside weather, wood type temps and such so I can look back on in the future. It sure helps the learning curve.

Just have fun.

HELP!!!

I'm holding steady at 224 on the smoke setting with P5. The only P settings I have are 0 through 5. Is this gonna be too high of a cook temp? Can I fix it or do I need to get a different controller?

It's OK for hot smoking. I prefer 250 myself.
