Brick oven/grill build

Post by DIYMan » August 12th, 2019, 11:57 am

Hello!

As I promised in my smoker build thread, I now make an separate thread about this brick oven/grill build.
https://smokerbuilder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3925

Started this build last summer by getting first a good bunch of old bricks, thay had been sitting in the woods for maybe 10-20 years. Got them for 50 bucks. It's very hard to find old and used bricks here where I live, I love the look of them. No way I would have done this build of new bricks.

Then was a good bed needed to be done. As we have cold winters here, a insulated concrete bed was needed to be done. Inside is a quite rubust metal mesh of course. This was done last fall(2018).

So, the plan was to start the build directly in the spring, but there was so much of other things to do, so it got delayed. But after the holiday finally had time to start laying bricks. My wife has been helping, this whole thing was her idea to start with. :D

Now the concrete table molding has been done. Under the mold I put 3mm steel plates and inside a steel mesh. Also embedded fire bricks in the concrete on the place where the oven/fire part will be.

Looking good. You'd almost need council approval for that structure. :D

I'm impressed, looks like you have done some brick work before.

Thank you guys for the comments. :) Well, my experience with bricks is about twentyfive years ago when we made a new flue with my uncle. :) These bricks are old and all are little bit different size so the build is mostly done bye the "eye". I'm no professional so the outcome is what is it haha. :D

The concrete table outcome isn't perfect. The cast is a little bit shy in the middle as I did run out of material...

But I think I can straighten the surface with some work.. Here is the idea of the surface tiles. :)

I think you've done a fine job with the brick work and that tile will look great.
