Dirty jokes aside, got a question about racks. Posted in another thread, but starting a new thread to not hijack.
why do you build your racks with the angle down and expanded welded underneath?
I make mine the same, but flip it over, and I can use the lip for handle.

Re: Racks!
I make mine with square tube and put the expanded on top.
For my mini I put the angle up with the expanded on top and use the underside for a handle. I do have to flip the bottom rack upside down if I'm cooking butts or bigger chickens/turkeys to clear the upper racks.

Re: Racks!
There's not really a right or wrong way as far as racks go. I prefer the look of angle down so that's the way I do them.

Re: Racks!
Seems to me it’s however u see your hand when u are grabbing the rack when u pull it out.. palm up or palm down. Otherwise it’s purely the look of it. Plus lots of guys weld on some sort of grab handles on top...one in the center or one on each corner.

Re: Racks!
I use angle iron pointed down but put my expanded metal on the bottom of the flat so as not to have all the uneven edges of the expanded metal on top. To me, it just looks right this way and is neat as I don’t want to see all the welds on the rack.
Don’t slide my racks much but have a small handle in the middle of each. This also forces me to grab the top of the rack so I’ll never smash/pinch my fingers between the bottom rack and the cook chamber.

Re: Racks!
Yes I do it that way too angle down. To me it is easier to clean the last cook off the rack this way.
