DP GF with cut file.
Started this build a month ago. I really just wanted to build a smoker using a cut file and plasma table. The table is JD2 Mad 4x4 water table. Its max cut is 51"x52” pushing the limits of what this table can cut. LIMITS; it would be possible to cut the side of the water table. Some of the sheet metal is 50" long. The cut file was nicely done, everything labeled which work out great.
I am not promoting this plasma table; it is really cool. This seems like the place to share a love of building smokers and how they get built. So I will share some information on the build and the table. Being a forum I welcome question, suggestion. I believe in hands-on learning, learning by doing.
Being in public education has given me access to some cool tools, that not everyone will have access to. Students learn to run CAD, design, program parts and how to cut them out on the table. We still cut parts out like we had a good old farm\home shop, students learn several methods. That being said this is a learning project for students.

That explains the farm shop comment. Hope you've got good students. If you don't mind my asking, what part of the country are you in?
Wish we had anything like that when I was growing up. About the best we had was an oxy/acetylene torch and a tombstone welder. Now my brother (he's got the family farm) has a big red MIG and a TIG welder, hasn't sprung for a plasma cutter. He's getting his cherry tanks out of stainless steel now, no painting mild steel.

Everyone likes pictures. Here are a few of the table working. I had the table label everything. Then cut out the parts.

Missouri same as Frank Cox. I have never met Frank in person, but love using homegrown plans. He has always been very helpful on the phone.

Question... is the lettering not going to show up after it is painted? Or is it light enough to sand out?

Good question. The lettering is permanent marker so it should clean off during paint prep. Also, any of the panels with lettering that can be faced in towards insulation will be.ajfoxy wrote:Question... is the lettering not going to show up after it is painted? Or is it light enough to sand out?

Ah, no problem then. Permanent marker comes off with methylated spirits so you should be good to go. Interesting that you have a marker pen and a scribe. Very clever.ajfoxy wrote:

Thanks for any input!

1/2 ID should be fine if not too long (to get bent probes through). Of course it would also depend on how many you want to feed through. Good idea to run a test prior to drilling and welding etc.

End of the year projects holding up smoker build!
Been away for a couple weeks but been busy.
Few of the projects holding up production of Smoker. Been focused on getting projects done by the end of the school year. Enjoy a little non-smoker eye candy.
