Re: First Smoker Build, Hybrid Rotisserie and Shelf Smoker
I figured as much. I kept finding things to add and improve my other smoker and trailer. Two years after it was "finished". Probably would still be working on it if I hadn't left it up in Iowa after smoke smacking my uncle. Didn't feel like paying the $650 in gas to get it back to Texas. Hense the reason I'm building this one. Now I know this smoker cost me way more than the gas would have but whats the fun in that. Lol

If we were all logical where would that get us? Geez I might get stuff done quicker and on the first try.

Re: First Smoker Build, Hybrid Rotisserie and Shelf Smoker
Well if you look at it right it's totally logical. I use my rig in Iowa (now that it's up there) for family events when I'm up there and try to make at least one competition. Now I don't have to pay the $1,300 a round trip in gas and have a smoker in both places. Well almost have one in each place. It kind of pays for itself if you look at it with your head cocked, one eye closed and the other squinted. ;)

Re: First Smoker Build, Hybrid Rotisserie and Shelf Smoker
Well work got busy and kept me from working on the smoker but I've had some down time so I cleaned, sanded and started painting it. Got the tack coat plus two coats done so far. Going to wait till Friday and probably put another two coats on then let it sit for a week. May put a space heater in the "Paint Booth" during that week. Haven't decided. Not coming out too bad for using spit cans though.

Re: First Smoker Build, Hybrid Rotisserie and Shelf Smoker
Thanks you much guys. Glad I'll have it done before the 4th. Going to put it to the test with 12 racks of ribs (baby back), 2 pork shoulders, 2 briskets and 10 chickens. Chickens will be going in the rotisserie side. Should be interesting. That'll be the first time both sides are going at the same time. I'll be running the same temp in both sides so I don't think I'll have issues but who knows.

Pulled her out of the booth. Going to let it cure till at least Wednesday until I start bolting things back on. Could use a color sand but I'm fine with how it turned out.

Re: First Smoker Build, Hybrid Rotisserie and Shelf Smoker
Thank you Rodcrafter, Went ahead and put the baffle chain, sprockets and handle on since that didn't involve coming into contact with the paint. It'll work pretty good once the floating tensioner I ordered gets here.

Re: First Smoker Build, Hybrid Rotisserie and Shelf Smoker
Well,it's pretty much finished minus the chain tensioner that will be here Friday. Hardest thing to put in by far was the dang grommets for all the temp and meat probes. Don't think they were meant for 1/8" haha. Thinking about making and installing some shackle mounts on the legs but those will just be bolt on's.
