Inverted Flame Smoker
Hi! Has anyone tried building an "Inverted Flame" smoker? I would like to build a smoker, and have seen one manufacturer of "inverted flame" technology smokers, and the reviews are awesome. Has anyone built one? It would be a clone of the Karubecue smoker, or something with a similar downdraft pull from the firebox to the cook box.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Inverted Flame Smoker
Welcome aboard.
I had a look on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag0sM8dIsHg) and it does look interesting. I think without knowing the exact science behind how it works it might be a tad difficult for the home builder. Not impossible, but those guys have obviously put a lot of time and research into getting the thing to work well.
I suppose one could almost say a gravity feed smoker is sort of inverse flame as it takes heat and moves it slightly down and along. But that might be a bit of a stretch.

Seems more complicated than it needs to be. I would be concerned about longevity. All that heated, moisture laden smoke has to be tough on moving parts. I agree that a GF is a much simpler concept and can run all day and night with just one feeding.
If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

A GF would definitely be easier to build. Plus, you don't have to babysit them feeding fuel. How much are the GFs to build with sheet metal and parts?
Thanks for the kind responses!

I spent about $1200AUS, I think most have gotten away with around $900USD.

That sounds about right. One advantage is you will never have to replace any motors or stuff like the other. Now I use a CyberQ to run my GF but some others don't, it's not required. I only mention that because it has a fan motor.

That looks like a pretty complex system, I certainly don't think I could build one.
