Holey moley that's pretty flash. I was thinking of just an L shaped piece welded on the top of the door. I think you are just showing off now... :-)

Hey I think I felt slighted Squiggle. Although I don't have a legit come back, probably cause it's true.

Looks absolutely magnificent.
What's the "top" you have on your smoke stack? Looks interesting

So as promised, here's the rest of the pics. :kewl:

All masked up & first coat on. I used matte black engine paint, rated to 600C.

Image

I can take the door off so I painted it on the bench.

Image

& this is the final product after refitting all the accessories, just two more things to add & it's done.

Image

The seal finally turned up thanks to Island Outdoor, the original seal I ordered two months ago never turned up :hissy: so I ordered a Nomex kit(15ft long) & I had about 2in to spare.

I don't like the slide top from the plan so I made a removable top to slide over the stack when not in use to keep any rain & uninvited guests out. :D
The smoker will also work with the cap on, only as a last resort when it's raining while cooking. :kewl:

You did a great job on the cooker, no question! I especially like the fact you adjusted areas of the design to suit yourself and not compromise the function. You are a SmokerBuilder. So what you going to build next?

Don't forget to post Q pics forever.

Oh man, that is one sweet compliment, & coming from you RC is even more special, thanks dude.

Well I got to fire it up tonight & it was unsurprisingly slow to get up to temp(can't wait to hook up a digi-Q to sort that out). I'm still trying to figure the sweet spot on the valve out, but wide open for 2hrs got it up to 234C(about 450F). Now I'm just trying to find where the valve needs to be for the temp to sit at 130C(about 275F). :wsm:

Image

Best thing is that it has a consistent temp from top to bottom. :kewl:

Image

Also, I finally added the last two items I needed to & it's finally finished.

Image

Oh yeah, the next build is going to be the charcoal kiln & maybe another truck rim heater, then I think there's a couple of people round here who are very interested in a matte black gravity feed smoker of their very own & they have plenty of money to spare, hahaha. :welder:

Hey Squiggle, what brand of matte black engine paint did you use? All those I've looked at are way under 600C.
Bunnings only carries the rattle cans and they only go up to around 300C. So if there's something out there that is available in OZ that is hopefully in a tin so I can spray it (or worst case scenario roller it). That is not a rattle can... I hate rattle cans :-(

Cheers mate... and that unit is looking the goods... really flash.

I think it's called Motorspray & you need to go to a paint place to get it. A 500ml tin is about $25 & it just did two coats, I thinned it out 25%. If you're doing a big GF I would suggest two tins to make sure.

There's a place in Yatala called Resine Paint, they will be able to get it for you, or Beenleigh Paint Palace(I think that's the name of it) will be able to as well.

Thanks holyp, Qview will follow shortly on my next day off. :kewl:
