Hey from WA state

Post by copasspupil » March 30th, 2020, 12:03 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm new here but not new at building grills and smokers. I've made a Santa Maria style grill and a Texas pit, but now I am interested in building a Cabinet style vertical smoker which will be insulated. I'm hoping to start up a conversation with a few of you on how to make this build work. I know I want a reverse flow setup, with the cabinet placed on top of a moving cart and build a serving tray on the side and space underneath for supplies.

Some issues I am already coming up with and possible solutions(using the Feldoncentral calculator:
1. Chimney: I wanted to install this with the opening about 6" above the drip pan and inside the cabinet until it reaches the top but I think I'll just have it pass through the rear of the smoker then up and out. Either 4" or 5"
2. Firebox inlet: I was planning on installing a couple of values to the side but it doesn't seem to be enough. Can I place a sliding fresh air intake from the bottom and still accomplish it?
3. Firebox air inlet opening? Does this not work the same as the above?

Learning generally boils down to "Repetition or the avoidance of pain", some people learn by doing, some by watching and some just have to pee on the electric fence.

Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right. Henry Ford

Welcome to the board.

No experience with a reverse cabinet so no help from me.
