Looks like an interesting way to make charcoal. I see they were using 2x4's and stuff. I wonder if they were making the charcoal for the garden....
Did you see the thread where I made my own charcoal?

Yeah, Frank, I saw that. How do you like it? Do you still end up buying a lot?

This guy is using it for blacksmithing. I have access to all the hardwood I can cut and I'm sure they'd let me set something like this up in exchange for a few cords of wood.

I also like the idea that this burns off of wood gas and uses less wood to keep the process going.

I do not make it often. I did it more for the experience than anything. It was fun to do. I still buy most all my charcoal.
I think the method you posted is best for large quantities. However the method I used is about the right amount in my opinion. It made about 3 bags of larger sized lumps.
