Hi guys,
I am converting a grill (350 gallon tank) to a reverse flow smoker. The grill is already on a trailer made on angle iron. I wanted to get some of you more experienced guys to review my plan before I get started. the trailer needs to be reinforced and extended. My plan is remove the tongue then sister the angle outer rails with 2"x2" 1/8 wall tubing making the trailer the length needed then add new tongue. The tubing will be layed parallel to the angle (minimal gap) and outriggers added for additional strength and rigidity. This will allow me to get the firebox closer to the axle instead of being 2 ft away.
I know many of you will say it would be easier to build another but I am doing this for a coworker and he wants to modify this trailer.
current trailer is 4 x7 end result would be 4x11 or 4x12

Re: Trailer modification
I've seen this done several times and it'll work fine if you do it right. I would use 2x3 rectangular tubing if you haven't already bought the tubing.

Re: Trailer modification
Sounds like the axle will be at the extreme rear of the trailer as you plan on next to the firebox. My only concern is getting it too far back and ending up with too much tongue weight. Sounds like you have a good plan tho...

He already bought the tubing. The axle will the 6-8 inches in front of the firebox.

Re: Trailer modification
