Trailer size ?

Post by Welder10 » February 1st, 2017, 8:02 pm

Need opinions on trailer size for a 24" x 52" horizontal offset. I want opinions on what size would look good with the smoker. I figured I'd mount a chest type tool box in front of the smoker. And a wood box on the opposite side of the smoker.

My 24''x48'' is on a 4'x9.5' and there's enough room for a couple of coolers in front of the smoker and wood storage behind and under it.

How far back from the front did you set your axle? I'm building a 5' x 10' trailer. Need to know where to place the axle. I'm also counter sinking the firebox 20" in from the back of trailer.

I'm building the same size trailer as you for my 24x54 reverse flow. Similar layout as your describing. I'm putting my firebox 12" inset into the trailer. I plan on tacking the spring hangers on the frame so the axle is about 6" in front of the fire box. My trailer will have 4 legs under the corners while I build the project. When it's pretty well laid out and together I will jack the rear of the trailer up off the rear legs and put blocks under the axle and lower the trailers weight down onto the axle. I'll just lift the tongue and adjust by feel. I figure if I have 150 - 200 lbs of tongue weight I'll be fine. My tongue is also going to be removeable so I'll be adjusting the length of that at the same time.

I tried to post a picture of what I've done on the trailer so far. It says the file size is too large.

I read somewhere where you can put the tongue on a set of bathroom scales.

My axle is 4'' from the FB. I don't know exactly how much tongue weight I have but it's in the 150-200 lbs range.
