3x4 angle trailer

Post by MattJ » April 28th, 2019, 9:30 pm

I am thinking about using it to build a trailer for a small offset. I have some 3x4 angle 1/4 thick laying around. I only have enough angle for the side rails. Would 1.25" square tube 1/8 thick work for cross members and front rail?

Angle is not the best choice for a trailer as it is able to flex (and therefore crack) in too many directions. I might suggest ‘C’ channel or rectangular tubing for the frame rails. Personally, I would purchase new steel for the rails and use you heavy angle for the crossmembers.

The cooker is only around 300lbs.

For a 300 lb smoker I believe that would be just fine. There are numerous box store trailers made of lighter angle than that.

What would you make your tongue from?

2x2 1/4 or 2x3 14ga tubing for the tongue.

Great job. Good looking smoker no doubt. Even a beautiful Ram in the background.

Did you register the trailer/get tabs? What was the process like? I'm sure it varies by state ...
