Smoking Minion

Post by tim1000l » September 3rd, 2015, 12:51 pm

My first smoker build! I got a 60 Gallon tank from a coworker and we started working on it by cutting the plug out of the bottom for the intake and cutting the doors out.

I showed the above picture to my wife and she thought it looked like a Minion. That got the gears turning. When I told my coworker/helper this, he came up with the idea to have smoking hair. Well, after that idea, I was sold!
We worked on the doors for a while:

Then it was on to the hair:

First fire (complete with "eyes") to burn the paint off, really should have done that sooner, it was THICK paint:

Cleaned up, ready for paint (complete with arms!):

Base coat of white/gray with hair and hands already coated black and covered:

yellow and blue painted, taping off the coverall shoulder straps:

Tape removed:

Getting ready to season the smoker (oiled CC with a misto and olive oil, let that burn in for an hour or so then added bacon!):

First cook (2 Boston Butts and a Fatty):

Something is missing... the face:
