That's a different guy asking about siliconing the fittings.

Ya I should have realized that was why the pin was up near the lid height. Oh well nothing a grinder won't fix.

Thanks AJfoxy... even though it's a retirement gift I think a seasoning test cook would be justified :grillin:

Got some more done on the drum over the last few days. Got the hinge figured out, put the wheels on, got the basket built, and put on the handle and springs to hold the lid tight.

Very nice indeed. Awesome detail. Are those wheels not going to get a tad warm that close to the drum?

Hopefully not but I'm not sure. I've never had a UDS so I'm not sure how hot that area will be. If it does I'll come up with some heat shield or steel wheels.

Thanks guys. Just have to get the heat deflector set up along with the charcoal basket handle. Have to order an ash pan as well then I'll be ready to paint.

Got the heat deflector plate set up today. I've seen some with holes drilled and some with slots cut. Should I put some holes in this one?

Yes, I would put some holes in it. I used a pizza pan and drilled a bunch of random 3/8'' holes in it.
