1/2” steel

Postby bstory » December 6th, 2017, 9:15 pm

Hey guys I am back to build another smoker. I was given a 24x60” piece of pipe, but it is 1/2” thick. All I have used on the others are 1/4” metal. Do you guys recommend slightly increasing the size of the fire box for larger fire to warm the thick metal up easier? Just curious.
Thanks in advance

I wouldn't recommend it. I've built a few from 3/8'' using the pit calculator and they take a few minutes longer to get up to temperature but once they do, they perform the same as the ones I built from 1/4''.
