Auger Question

Been looking at the augers like the one in the RF sidebox thread. Is there a reason to not weld round stock in the center of the auger? This is the type of auger I am most aquainted with.

I think you are talking about the thread I started with the picture of the auger flight. I just bought them with no center shaft so I wouldn't have to pay to ship all that weight. It will take a 3/4" piece of solid bar or pipe and it slides right in. It's easier to cut without the center shaft in also. I just put about 1/2" of weld every 2" and it seems to work well.
